What This Broken Link Checker Tool Does

This tool is a free online dead link checker. You enter any website URL and it fetches that page, extracts all the links it finds, then checks the status of each one. It tells you which links are working and which ones are broken, along with the HTTP status code for each link. It can find broken links on a website.

You can scan up to 100 links per page. The tool runs in batches so you see live progress as it scans. You know exactly how many links have been checked at every step, not just at the end.

Each result shows the link URL, its anchor text, a working or broken badge, and the status code returned by the server. Links returning a 404 or any error code are flagged as broken. Links returning 200 or 3xx redirects are marked as working.

A broken link is a hyperlink that no longer leads to a valid page. This happens when a page gets deleted, a domain expires, or a URL changes without a proper redirect. You can read more about how HTTP status codes work on Wikipedia to understand what each code means. You can test broken links on your site with the help of this tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many links does the broken link checker tool check per scan?

The tool scans up to 100 unique links per page. This covers most standard blog posts, landing pages, and product pages without any issue.

Do I need to create an account to use this tool?

No. There is no signup required. The tool is completely free and open to everyone without any login.

Why is the scan taking longer than expected?

Each link on the page gets checked individually. If a page has many external links or some servers respond slowly, the scan takes more time. The live progress bar shows you exactly where the scan is so you can see it moving forward.

What does a 404 status code mean?

A 404 status code means the page was not found. The link exists in the HTML but the destination page no longer exists on that server. It is one of the most common types of broken links.

What does a 403 error mean on a link?

A 403 means the server refused access. The page exists but the server will not let the scanner in. This often happens with pages protected by login, paywalls, or bot protection. The link itself may still work fine for regular users.

Can I check links on someone else’s website?

Yes. The tool works on any publicly accessible website. You can use it to check your own site or any other site that does not require a login to view.

Does the tool check links on every page of my website?

No. It checks only the single URL you enter. To scan multiple pages, enter each URL separately. This keeps scans fast and focused.

How often should I check my website for broken links?

Once a month is a reasonable frequency for most websites. If you add a lot of new content or frequently update old posts, scanning more often makes sense. After any major site restructure, run a scan on your most important pages first.

What should I do after finding broken links?

Go to the page on your website where the broken link appears and either update the URL to a working destination, replace it with a more relevant link, or remove it entirely if it no longer adds value.

Why do some working links show a 301 or 302 status code?

Those are redirect codes. The server is forwarding the request to a new URL. The tool treats 3xx redirects as working because the visitor still reaches a valid destination. But if you see many 301s, it is worth updating those links to point directly to the final URL.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes. Completely free. No hidden fees, no premium tiers, no usage limits.
